It is one of the oldest deciphered writings of significant length in the world. The sixth Babylonian king, Hammurabi , enacted the code, and partial copies exist on a seven and a half foot stone stele and various clay tablets. The code consists of laws, with scaled punishments, adjusting “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” as graded depending on social status, of slave versus free man.
The code was discovered by modern archaeologists in , and its editio princeps translation published in by Jean-Vincent Scheil. This nearly complete example of the code is carved into a basalt stele in the shape of a huge index finger 2. The code is inscribed in the Akkadian language , using cuneiform script carved into the stele.

Romance Novels for Middle Schoolers While Young Adult encompasses those in the age range of 12 to 18, most YA fiction is recommended for a smaller age range within the 12 to 18 age group. This is especially apparent in YA romantic fiction. The majority of YA protagonists in romance novels are fifteen to seventeen years old. While this makes for a wonderful read for high school students, middle school students may prefer to read about characters their own age.
This course will provide students an opportunity to develop an understanding of health concepts, behaviors, and skills that reduce health risks and enhance the health and well-being of self and others, to set personal health goals, and to evaluate health information, products, services, and the effects of health behaviors on the community.
Exponential decay and semi-log plots Video transcript SAL: In the last video we saw all sorts of different types of isotopes of atoms experiencing radioactive decay and turning into other atoms or releasing different types of particles. But the question is, when does an atom or nucleus decide to decay? Let’s say I have a bunch of, let’s say these are all atoms. I have a bunch of atoms here.
And let’s say we’re talking about the type of decay where an atom turns into another atom. So your proton number is going to change. Your atomic number is going to change.

After that comes a more difficult process: Finding a fossil merely places one organism within a time span. Finding many organisms places the group within a time span. Determining the actual existence-span of the species is very approximate. If the fossils are relatively rare, the actual existence-span may be much greater that the fossil record indicates. Even if the fossils are relatively abundant during the species’ heyday, the number of organisms may have been small during the time of its appearance on Earth and during its demise.
At these important times, its fossil record might be sparse or nil, causing those times to be under-represented. The oldest method is stratigraphy, studying how deeply a fossil is buried. Dinosaur fossils are usually found in sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rock layers strata are formed episodically as earth is deposited horizontally over time. Newer layers are formed on top of older layers, pressurizing them into rocks. Paleontologists can estimate the amount of time that has passed since the stratum containing the fossil was formed.
Generally, deeper rocks and fossils are older than those found above them.

ShutterStock Up until I was about years-old, I was terrified to masturbate. And to have sex. And to have oral sex. Up until high school began, I was a Catholic school kid. I wore a uniform to school every day, had nuns as teachers, got detention if I chewed gum and took a daily religion class, where I learned all about Catholicism.
In sixth grade, we got The Talk.
Sarah and Reece. How we met. Reece and I met when we were years-old and going into the 7th grade. We were both new students at a new school. I remember meeting him by the 7th grade lockers on the first day of orientation and joking how my locker was above his even though he was taller.
Atomic number, atomic mass, and isotopes Video transcript In the last video, we talked about the idea that if I dug up a bone someplace, if I dug up a bone, and if I were to measure its carbon , and I found that it had half of the carbon that I would expect to find in a living animal or plant, that I said, hey, maybe one half life has gone by, or roughly for carbon , one half life is 5, years.
So I said maybe it’s 5, years since this bone was part of a living animal, or it’s roughly that old. Now, when I did that, I made a pretty big assumption, and some you all have touched on this in the comments on YouTube on the last video, is how do I know that this estimate I made is based on the assumption that the amount of carbon in the atmosphere would have been roughly constant from when this bone was living to now?
And so the question is, is the amount of carbon in the atmosphere and in the water, and in living plants and animals, is it constant? And if it isn’t constant, how do you calibrate your measurement so you can actually figure out how much carbon there is relative to living plants and animals at that time? And the way that you can make that calibration, because it turns out it isn’t perfectly constant, the way that you can make that calibration, there’s two ways, and I have pictures here of both of them, one is to look at tree things.
And I’m told this will work up to about 10, years. Up to 10, years old. I don’t know of any 10, year old trees, I don’t think anyone does, but maybe there’s some remains of old trees. And you can look at their tree rings, and I think most of us are familiar with this idea that every year that a tree grows, it forms another layer of bark. And so you can look back to that layer of bark just for the half life of carbon , and then figure out how much carbon was there in the atmosphere at that period in time.
And so it’s kind of a record of the atmosphere up to 10, years. If you want to go even further back, you can look at cave deposits, and the fancy word for these cave deposits are speleothems.

Creating a Personal Identity” For the next few weeks we will be working on creating a personal identity and showcasing it through our artwork. We will be learning about the history and art form of graffiti. In modern times, paint, particularly spray paint, and marker pens have become the most commonly used graffiti materials. In most countries, marking or painting property without the property owner’s consent is considered defacement and vandalism, which is a punishable crime.
There are two on-going assignments in 7th grade ELA: Writer’s Notebook and Reading Log. Unlike last year, most of you student’s writing will be done at home. They are expected to complete 4 entries per week and should a total of 3 pages long.
Sarah and Reece How we met Reece and I met when we were years-old and going into the 7th grade. We were both new students at a new school. I remember meeting him by the 7th grade lockers on the first day of orientation and joking how my locker was above his even though he was taller. He remembers meeting me with a group of friends at the mall and making fun of how ridiculously large my cellphone was. We were always close friends after middle school and started dating again before our junior year of high school.
We continued to date throughout high school and during our time at University of Texas at Austin, until we moved back to Dallas our hometown after graduation, where the rest is history. How he asked After dating for 9 years, we knew we would get married at some point, but Reece led me to believe that it was not on his radar until I finished graduate school in Reece had told me of an upcoming trip to Pebble Beach, CA, during which time his mother was supposed to receive an award with her company.
We had been going to Pebble Beach almost annually since college and his parents are often out there for work, so both of these situations were not suspicious to me at all. I rode along as Reece played Spanish Bay golf course on Friday with his family. When we were driving around the course, he pointed to a house on a peninsula and stated he would like to go there later because he heard from his parents that it had a nice view.
When we were walking on the trail towards the house, we passed a bench with a blanket on it. He pointed it out and I asked what it was for. He never knew that I had told my sister 4 years before that getting engaged at Pebble Beach was my dream.
